The Northeast advances

Present in several activities in industry and agriculture, biotechnology has been conquering important advances in the Northeast of Brazil. By means of studies financed by Banco do Nordeste, with the support of FUNDECI - Fundo de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (Scientific and Technological Development Fund), genetic development of crops of economic interest is searched, as transgenic cotton for instance.

Successful experiences

In the working area of Banco do Nordeste, companies such as Biobrás, in Montes Claros, in the state of Minas Gerais, which works in the production of human insulin by modified bacteria, and  the on-going projects of EMBRAPA- Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Brazilian Farming Research Company) performed by Northeast universities, are successful experiences which widen the potential of the Northeast for new enterprises and develop the chemical industry in the Region, especially the chemical-pharmaceutical industry.
