Abstract

The paper attempts to develop a model for estimation of the family probability to have their own children into the labor force. Variables such as adult, teenagers and children income, and the family structure, especially the absence of one parent and the presence of minors in the family were considered in the model. The decision process was modeled as a family and not as an individual problem. Estimation was made with a logistic non linear model, with dade from a sample of 8738 families in the Região Metropolitana de Salvador. Results highlighted the importance of the school attendance and compatibility of age and school grade for the family decision to supply their children to the labor market, side by side with the size of the family and adult income.

Possui graduação em Bacharel Em Economia pela Universidade Federal da Bahia(1971), mestrado em Economia pela Universidade Federal da Bahia(1975), mestrado em Economia Política pela Boston University(1979), doutorado em Economia pela Boston University(1987) e pós-doutorado pela Ul/London School of Economics and Political Science(2001).
