This article is concerned with the basic relatioships involving the economic structure of capital and the regional growth process. The backgroud is the contemporary phenomenon of globalization. By de the same token, the main assumption developed adopt a positive correlation, in the long run, between capital structure and favorable regional scenaries. The article is organized in six sections: infrastructure, globalization and productive restructuring; infras-tructure's main characteristics and concepts; regional development potential; relationships among infras-tructure, economic growth and productivity; infras-tructure vis-à-vis direct pruductivity activities; and the conclusions.
