The study evaluates a group of small farmers that works together in a vertical integration with an agro-industry. The author tries to identify whether an irrigation program dedicated to this group of farmers should be significant to improve their income and to minimize their risk. The case has been analyzed through the Minimization of the Total Absolute Deviation - MOTAD, when different solutions had been tested in order to find out the best alternative of maximization of the income with a minimum risk. It concludes that the vertical integration among small farmers and the agro-industry constitutes an alternative to improve the Projeto Ilha Grande (Bahia). Such integration could alleviate the problems they use to find out in this market. That's a good way to achieve small risk, better and stable income level and easy access to modern production technology.
