Bahia State capital, Salvador, the most important tou ristic centre of Brazilian Northeast, has only 26% of all its produ ced sewage collected and disposed properly. The State Govern- ment has a project through which approximately 80% of the whole town sewage will be collected and disposed through a submarine outfall, used only in 13% of its capacity. That project is supposed to treat secondanily the effluents of other 10 nearby smaller towns, and will improve public health life standard in the region, significantly, especially concerning reducing water-bome diseases and public expedintures in this sector.
