Abstract

The aim of this article is to analyse the performance of the Paraiban economy during the 1960-92 period. First, it demonstrates the relative dimension of the economy's involution in the regional and national context. Secondly, it attempts to explain this reality through investigating its foundations considering its interrelation in the Brazilian capital accumulation process. Thus, it gives special attention to the understanding of regional integration in national social, and economic system and its repercussions, in recent history, emphasizing the case of Paraíba state.
