Abstract

The Northeastearn Region economy has shown in last decades low levels of labor force absortion, low wages and high levels of informal jobs. Employment scenaries here estimated fix in 5.8, 7.4 and 8.0 million respectively for 2000, 2010 and 2020 the level of informal jobs in Northeast. Considering a target of reducing in 50,0% the level of informal jobs, this would require the creation of 2.9, 3.7 and 4.0 million new positions until 2020. This challenge demands the mobilization of policies which expand the regional production capacity, support small production, tourism, irrigation, etc., besides restructuring the land ownership system and infrastructure.
