ECONOMETRIC MODELING OF CARGO FLIGHT DEMAND AT CONCESSIONED AIRPORTS IN NORTHEAST BRAZIL

Abstract

The increase in demand for air cargo transportation in Brazil, especially at airports in the Northeast, is significant in light of the economic and social changes affecting regional logistics. This study analyzes how various factors influence this demand, aiming to develop a predictive model to estimate the cargo flight demand at Northeast concessioned airports, considering economic and operational variables. Using a monthly panel data set, econometric methods such as Weighted Least Squares (WLS) and Poisson distribution count models were applied to evaluate the relationship between variables and air cargo demand. Results indicate that GDP and airport connectivity are significant factors influencing cargo flight demand, with the count model showing the best fit. This study contributes to understanding demand dynamics, suggesting the importance of integrated airport management.
