SITUAÇÃO ATUAL DA CARCINICULTURA E O STATUS ECONÔMICO-SOCIAL DA ATIVIDADE NA REGIÃO NORDESTE

Abstract

This paper discusses the importance of shrimp culture and the status of this activity is presented. The results show that shrimp culture is already a significant industry in terms of job employment, foreign exchange earning, food supply. The industry can be more important for socio-economic stability of the estuarine areas where the populations live. In conclusion shrimp culture will continue replacing fully exploited tradicional fisheries as market demand suppliers. The industry must unite an adequate management and conservation of environmental resources to survive and thrive.
