ANÁLISE DA DISPOSIÇÃO A PAGAR PELA PRESERVAÇÃO DO MANGUEZAL DO RIO CEARÁ¹

Abstract

The idea that is not possible to get economic measurement of non-use value, as outstanding scenery or ecological functions of natural asset, conducted some researchers to develop valuation methods based on anthropomorphic process, in which the valuation done refers to people’s preferences for changes in the state of their environment. One of them is the Contingent Valuation method that uses willingness to pay and willingness do receive, in monetary terms, to estimate non-use value. This paper intends to show an application of it in a specific situation. The Logit model was used to estimate the willingness to pay, in order to get the preference for Ceará River’s mangrove preservation by people who live near there. It also discusses the main biases and the microeconomic foundations of the method.
