INDÚSTRIA RURAL NO NORDESTE E NO BRASIL E O DESENVOLVIMENTO DO ESPAÇO RURAL

Abstract

Recently the debate on development of the rural space received significant contributions that point to the growing importance of the non-agricultural rural activities in relation to the agricultural activities. With the objective of contributing for this debate,we analyzed the relative available information to the so called rural industry, a nonagricultural rural activity. The study showed, among other facts, that the activities related to the rural industry are important for the provisioning of the internal market with respect to many products; that they are strongly present in the agricultural units of production, particularly in those of family base; that the medium contribution of these activities for the job generation and monetary income is significantly superior to that provided by the products of the traditional agriculture, as rice, bean and corn. These facts indicate that the fomentation of activities related to the rural industry can have important contribution in the development of the Brazilian rural space, in general, and Northeastern, in particular.
