This study analyzes the performance of the expanded retail trade in Brazil, Ceará, Pernambuco, and Bahia, Brazil's default rate, prospects, as well as an analysis of the wholesale trade. After the end of 2024, Brazilian commerce has grown, but with lower rates of variation, and at the end of December 2025, the expanded retail trade showed growth in Ceará (4.2%), Pernambuco (1.0%), Bahia (0.4%), and Brazil (0.1%). Throughout 2025, household debt increased, but from October 2025 onwards there was a decrease, and in December 2025, 78.9% of Brazilian families were indebted. All segments of commerce are expected to grow in 2026, except for the trade in equipment and office supplies (-0.6%). The trade in pharmaceutical and perfumery products is expected to have the highest increase (4.2%). In 2026, the personal income tax reform, even if fiscally neutral, will have a positive effect on consumption. The unemployment rate has been the lowest in the historical series, and with the signal of a reduction in the basic interest rate recently announced by the Central Bank, the trend is towards increased investment and consumption.
