Abstract

Global pork production is expected to stabilize in 2025. Production increases in Brazil and the United States have offset production declines in the European Union and China. Brazil is the world's fourth-largest producer, with strong domestic demand attributed to improved competitiveness in beef and good domestic availability. From January to May 2025, exports grew in the country, with variations of +29.96% (US$) and +16.28% (volume) compared to 2024. Quarterly slaughter saw a +1.64% increase in the slaughtered herd and +2.11% in meat production between Q1 2025 and Q1 2024. In the Northeast, exports remain modest, with most of the meat absorbed by the regional market. There is potential for expansion of this activity, as demand increases. In Q1 2025, regional slaughter grew +4.70% compared to Q1 2024, and meat production increased by 2.05%. Bahia leads the production rankings, and Ceará has stood out, with a 29% increase in slaughter in Q1 2025. Expectations remain positive, based on cost reductions, market opening, and improved domestic consumption.
