The oil industry exhibits characteristics of an oligopolistic market, with production and, especially, international trade concentrated in countries that often experience geopolitical instability. In 2024, Brazil ranked 12th globally in oil reserves and 24th in natural gas reserves. In the same year, it was the 9th largest oil producer and the 30th largest natural gas producer. Regarding production performance, in 2024 Brazil recorded a 1.0% decline in oil output, a 2.5% increase in natural gas production, and a 1.2% rise in refined products output, while sales of refined products grew by 4.3%. The outlook for production and sales indicators for oil, gas, and refined products in Brazil remains positive for 2025 and the following years. Concerning investments in the oil and gas sector in Brazil, recent discoveries of offshore areas along the northeastern coast with significant potential for oil and natural gas production, combined with existing onshore projects, indicate strong prospects for attracting investments and financing demand in the sector in the Northeast Region, including renewable energy investments by companies in this industry.
