According to the National Basic Sanitation Information System (SINISA), based on data from 2023, the total water supply coverage through distribution networks reached 83.1% (167.6 million inhabitants), while 59.7% of the country’s population (111.3 million inhabitants) is served by a sewage collection network, and 78.7% of the collected sewage is treated. In 2023, the sector exceeded expectations, with investments of R$24.7 billion in potable water supply and wastewater services, representing a real growth of 5.2% compared to 2022. Brazil currently has 28 sanitation auction projects under structuring for 2025 and 2026, with projected investments totaling R$91 billion and covering 1,108 municipalities, focusing on the Northeast and North regions. The expectation is an increase in private sector participation, with projections to reach 2,766 Brazilian cities (50%) by 2026. Therefore, the outlook points to expanded investments in the sector, aiming for universal access to sanitation services, as established by the new Legal Framework for Sanitation.
