This study presents information on production, international trade, and the outlook for the apparel industry at the global, Brazilian, and Northeastern levels for 2025 and 2026. In the first half of 2022, the industry experienced a slowdown in growth and a return to recession. The exit from the recession occurred between June 2024 and September 2024. In April and July 2025, the Northeast and the state of Ceará, respectively, re-entered recession, already under pressure from the increase in U.S. import tariffs. In November 2025, apparel production increased in Brazil (1.0%) but declined in the Northeast (-4.9%) and in Ceará (-9.8%). The Brazilian Textile and Apparel Industry Association (ABIT) projected that the textile and apparel industries are expected to grow by 1.1% in 2026. The unemployment rate has reached its lowest level in the historical series, and with the recent signaling by the Central Bank of a reduction in the benchmark interest rate, the trend points toward increased investment and consumption. For 2025, apparel production volume in Brazil is estimated to rise by 1.5% compared to the previous year, reaching 5.4 billion pieces.
